After choosing your perfect engagement and wedding rings, it is imperative that you care for them so that they are as beautiful and special as the day you first slipped them on. To look after your rings, here are some hints:
- Always remove your rings before working with detergents and other strong or pungent materials. These affect the metals negatively, particularly white gold.
- Do not do rough work that may chip or scratch your stone or ring. Remove your rings first.
- Platinum rings can be rebuffed back to their original condition once scratched, but white gold rings will need to be re-plated.
- Take your ring to a reputable jeweller annually so that it can be examined. The jeweller will be able to determine if the stone is still firmly in place or if the claws or casing needs to be redone.
- Clean your ring regularly so that it maintains its shine and brilliance. This can be done in a solution of lukewarm water and liquid hand soap.
- Never handle the ring over an open drain or toilet as it can very easily slip and be lost.
- If you take your ring off for any reason, keep it in a soft bag. Just leaving it unprotected in your jewellery box will scratch and damage it.
