Wet weather options

5th November, 2010

Rain on a wedding day is lucky – it’s not just an old wives tale. Rain adds drama, atmosphere, and often an intimate feel to the day which translates into weddings photos and the wedding video. But if you don’t want sodden hair ruining your wedding photos, it pays to know where the dry outdoor areas are in Sydney.

Number 1 Martin Place is an excellent spot for wedding photos although permission is required from the Westin Hotel. The Argyle pub in the Rocks is another great spot and permission is also required prior to the wedding day. Observatory Hill has a rotunda and is a suitable location for wedding photography when there are intermittent showers, as is St James Church and The Royal Botanic Gardens. It is important to book lawns and rotunda’s in The Botanic Gardens as rangers patrol the area regularly. Sydney city itself contains a myriad of little spots that are suitable for taking photos in wet weather although you will need patience and stamina as getting in and out of the cars will be a necessary regularity. Slightly out of the city centre is The Quadrangle at Sydney University and the waterside spots at Walsh Bay.

Filming weddings in the rain can be a challenge when there is limited dry space, however a few umbrellas and the right equipment will see your videographer able to film virtually anywhere. Really all that is required is a bit extra effort and a can do attitude. Harbour City Films love weddings in the rain and have produced stunning wedding videos in the most terrible of conditions. So as long as you are happy, we have no issue creating a stunning wedding video in the rain.
