Australian brides and grooms are definitely setting trends on a global scale, taking the traditions of weddings and altering them to suit their own personal identities and preferences. The following trends are currently big in Australia
- Inviting only your nearest and dearest – many couples have begun to refuse to invite those that they may previously have felt obliged to have simply because they are family members or acquaintances. Rather, they are inviting only those people that they really want there, thus enjoying a smaller, more intimate (and, therefore, cheaper) wedding.
- Brides are opting to go barefoot or to wear comfy thongs rather than uncomfortable, blister-inducing heels under their gorgeous gowns.
- Outdoor ceremonies as opposed to formal church affairs are rocketing up on the list of bridal preferences. Australia is a land of natural beauty and this element is being introduced by taking the celebrations outside.
- Brides and grooms now prefer to have a personal, unique wedding day. This means ditching many of the old-fashioned traditions and making them authentically exceptional. This may mean replacing the wedding bouquet with a bunch of feathers or the wedding cake with milkshakes from your favourite fast-food joint.
- It is fairly easy to become a wedding officiant these days. In fact, it can be done online. So, couples are choosing either a close friend or family member or simply a non-denominational person to fulfil this task.
