This is a flexible theme, and would suit either an indoor or an outdoor affair. It also allows great flexibility in terms of attire, décor, and so on as you are not limited to a strict one- or two-colour theme. Most décor items are available in a range of colours, making them easily accessible.
Design Elements
Due to this colour combination’s source (that is, a rainbow), rainbow graphics may be suitable. Remember, though, that this will create a very fun ambience with a childlike quality, reminiscent of fairy tales. Therefore, only choose this design element if that is the look for which you are striving. It is not appropriate for grand, formal events.
Invitations
Cute invitations cut into the shape of a rainbow are sure to get your guests excited for the wedding. Alternatively, simply incorporate the colours into a more formal invite. Consider including in the invitation that guests should wear colours of the rainbow, as this will make for fantastically bright wedding pictures. It will also get everyone involved in the theme, making them feel like a special part of your big day.
Attire
While a rainbow-coloured wedding dress may be a little over-the-top for most brides, using brightly coloured accessories will be the perfect way of conveying the colour scheme. Consider rainbow brooches, a colourful sash, or a beaded trim on your veil using glass beads of the seven theme colours. Fascinators, shoes and jewellery also give you, as the bride, the ideal opportunity to incorporate your theme.
Grooms and groomsmen can sport colourful waistcoats, shirts, ties, bowties or cravats; while your bridesmaids can don colourful dresses. Each of them may wear a different colour so that they create the complete rainbow effect when standing alongside the bridal couple for photographs. For a more subtle approach, simply dress your entourage in a neutral colour and give them each a pair of funky colourful shoes.
Décor
To keep your décor tasteful while still incorporating the theme, choose a neutral base colour (such as white, ivory or black) and use the rainbow shades as accent colours. For example, white table cloths with rainbow-coloured striped runners down the centre will look far more dramatic than an entire table covering of rainbow shades, which is likely to be over-stimulating to the eyes.
Guest Favours
Guest favours give you the opportunity to thank your guests for attending your wedding. They should remind your friends and family of the fun and romance of the day too, so keep them in line with your rainbow theme. Some ideas include:
