You will, no doubt, hold many happy memories from your childhood dear to you. Thinking back on your favourite songs, lollies and cartoon characters can be amusing and exciting as long-forgotten memories emerge after decades. Share the fun and joyful reminiscing with your friends and family by having a Forever Young theme for your special day.

Of course, the details of the theme will depend on when you were young. Therefore, it works well if the majority of your guests can identify with the design and celebratory elements of your theme. This will ensure that they can relate to it in a very personal way.

Invitations
Your wedding invitations set the scene for your wedding theme. Therefore, think carefully about how to incorporate superheroes, candy wrappers or other typical aspects of your youth into the design of your invites.

If you can find a favourite lolly or chocolate bar from your childhood, make this the main part of your invitation, explaining why invitees are receiving it within the wording of your invite. Your friends and family are sure to enjoy receiving something that they can savour along with their special invitation. Alternatively, create a collage of famous lolly brands (easily sourced on the Internet) and use this as your colourful invitation background.

For a really special approach, send your guests miniature models of cars that most of your parents would have driven during your childhood (such as Volkswagen Beetles or Morris Minors). Attach your invitation to these and let these double as your guest gifts to remind them of your wedding day.

Attire
As the bride and groom, the two of you may want to dress in the wedding fashion typical of your childhood era, while remaining distinctly ‘bridal’. For example, if you were young during the 1980’s, wear a shiny satin wedding gown with permed hair (for her) and a fitted grey suit with a sheen (for him).

Alternatively, dress in an outfit that reminds your guests of a famous celebrity couple that wed when you were younger. Great examples of such couples include Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham or Johnny Cash and June Carter.

For a far more informal look, dress up as superheroes or cartoon characters from your younger years. Get your guests to do the same (mentioning this on the invitations) for a really great collection of wedding photographs.

Another really fabulous idea is to ask your wedding guests to dress up according to what they wanted to be when they were older. This is sure to get each person involved in a very unique way.

Décor
Use prints and design elements that were popular in the time of your childhood. These may include paisley, floral, or very formal checks and triangles.

Use popular board games or favourite old comic books as your centrepieces, encouraging guests to play or peruse the pages while they wait for you to finish with your photographs.
