Newcastle is perched on the beautiful coastline of East Australia, just 167 kilometres from the bustling epicentre of Sydney, New South Wales (NSW). Although much smaller than Sydney, Newcastle is still the sixth largest city in the continent, the second-oldest in Australia and the second-largest in NSW.

Because of its unique positioning along both the coast and the harbour of the east shores, Newcastle boasts plenty to do and see amidst magnificent surrounds. Its beautiful beaches are very popular amongst surfers, sunbathers and swimmers; providing the ideal spot for pre- and post-wedding relaxation. The cool waters of the Pacific Ocean lap the extensive shores invitingly. Newcastle extends into a peninsula at the mouth of the Hunter River, creating an all-round exquisite destination for your wedding and honeymoon.

Due to its positioning on the water, many tourist-related activities are based on the shores and river banks. This gives newlywed couples and their guests a variety of options in terms of activities and attractions during their time in Newcastle.

The weather is sub-tropical, with an annual average of between 18 and 27 degrees Celsius. This means that engaged couples wanting to wed in a warm, sunny destination will be well rewarded by choosing Newcastle.

There are several fabulous wedding venues in and around Newcastle. Just some of these include:

  • Bella Vista – this beautiful venue dates back to the early 1900’s, providing a distinct historical charm to its ambience. Its gorgeous gardens and excellent accommodation facilities make it the ideal venue for a wedding and honeymoon. Despite feeling like you have escaped to a retreat from yesteryear, Bella Vista is actually centrally located and accessible. The Grand Dining Room is suited to larger weddings while the Private Dining Room is more suited to intimate celebrations. In addition, the gardens can be used for the ceremony and / or reception. There are several wedding packages available to suit the unique needs of each couple. Event coordinators are on-hand to assist with the planning process.
  • Merewether Golf Club – situated right near the hub of Newcastle City, this beautiful estate boasts plenty of lush greenery and intriguing wildlife to create the perfect backdrop for your big day. An entire team of event coordinators, caterers, and so on are available to make sure that every wedding is a one-of-a-kind and successful one. There are several venues available within the club, depending on the number of guests, style and budget of the couple. Different wedding packages are also available.
  • Silo Restaurant & Lounge – Silo is a modern venue situated on the Boardwalk, which ensures stunning views of the harbour and ocean. For an extra special (and somewhat James Bond-style) wedding couple arrival, there is also a private jetty. Different packages and menus are available to suit the needs, budgets and desires of each unique couple and their wedding. Five-star accommodation is available to the couple and their guests to round off the wedding day perfectly.

During their time in Newcastle, couples are encouraged to make the most of the following activities and attractions:
