For a really fun, playful wedding day that is sure to be remembered, incorporate a Funfair theme. This is not just childlike and entertaining; it also boasts a unique whimsical flavour, a sentimental glimpse into the carefree days of long ago. Funfairs are a universal feature, understood by cultures, languages and colours across a broad scale, making it a great medium for the charm of your wedding day.

Invitations
Use your invitations to convey your desired theme as these provide the first clue as to the theme of your big day. Be as creative, even a little silly, as you like – your theme allows for it. For card invitations, use bright colours, glittery effects and cut-outs in the shape of popular funfair rides (such as a carousel, for example). For something a little more ‘out of the box’, attach your invitation to a bag of fairy floss (cotton candy), a box of popcorn or a stall prize (such as a little stuffed animal). Alternatively, have custom-made funfair ride tickets designed as your invitations, ‘admitting’ your guests for a day of fun, food and fabulous times.

Attire
Because a traditional funfair does not necessitate a specific dress code or uniform, you have some freedom in this department. Keep your attire young, fun and quirky; reflecting the age you were when you frequented fairs of this nature. Another fun idea is to have a full dress-up theme in which you, your bridal entourage and even your guests dress up like funfair performers (e.g. clowns, magicians and fortune tellers). If you are hesitant about such dramatic attire, spruce up your traditional dress and suit with bright accessories, such as your fascinator or veil, bouquet or jewellery. Use feathers, balloons and streamers generously for a more effective impression.

Décor
Funfairs are full of bright lights, colours, shapes and tinny music. Use these elements in the décor of your wedding venue. Include common items, such as helium-filled balloons, stuffed toys, flashing neon lights, brightly-coloured streamers, and so on. Ride tickets will make great place name settings and giant arrangements of fairy floss will be effective replacements for bouquet centrepieces.

As an added feature, include games and competitions for your wedding guests. These should be similar to those commonly found at a funfair; such as bobbing for apples, fishing with magnets, paintball target practice, etc… A real fairy floss machine is great for the décor effect and makes a fabulous alternative to a traditional wedding cake.
