A celestial wedding theme involves anything and everything to do with the heavens above. This could range from the glittery stars and fascinating planets to angels and cherubs. Choosing this wedding theme leaves you, as the bride-to-be or bridal couple, open to a number of design and décor elements, while still assuring you of a distinctly unique motif.

Theme Colours
A celestial theme calls for sparkles and glitter if it is to reflect the shine of stars, planets, moons and spiritual bodies. Black, white and different shades of blue may form your base colours, accentuated by silver or touches of gold. These added sparkles also contribute a definite sense of magical, fairytale appeal, as well as establishing the heavenly look and feel of the event.

Attire
Because the traditional white ball gown style of wedding dress is already beautiful and a little dreamy, it works perfectly within this theme. The bride that wants to add a playful reference to the heavenly ambience should consider wearing a tasteful pair of feathered angel wings. Alternatively, dress your bridesmaids and / or flower girl in these wings. Accessories may be silver or gold with a little sparkle.

The grooms and groomsmen will look angelic in white suits with gold or silver waistcoats and cravats or bow ties.

Have fun in establishing the theme when it comes to your ring bearer and flower girl, as they will be quite excited to appear as darling cherubs or angelic guests of honour for your big day.

Décor
Your reception venue can look absolutely breathtaking when laden with twinkling stars (fairy lights strung up over the heads of your guests), and lanterns to resemble the bright, white full moon. There is an array of moulded cermaic cherubs and angels available, and these will look very effective when placedthroughout your venue. Paint these silver or gold to enhance your personal theme, or leave them whitewashed for a classic look.

Create unique place names by leaving a tiny cherub at each setting, holding the name of the person to be seated there. These name cards can be stuck onto the cherub or can simply lean on it, leaving the little angel as a gift for the guest to take home.

Scatter the dance floor with white feathers, making it appear as if the angels were using it before the guests arrived to celebrate your union.

Use white cottonwool or even candyfloss to create centrepieces that look like fluffy clouds. String fairy lights through or around this and create a starry night sky in the centre of each table. This works best when the table cloths are navy or black, so that the contrast is evident. Alternatively, create an arrangement of white and silver feathers.

Food & Beverages
There are a number of edible options that refer to angels and the heaven. Some of these include:

  • Angel Food cake (a lighter alternative to traditional wedding cake)
  • Angel hair pasta
  • Angels’s Tears wine
