For couples that are simultaneously stylish and enjoy a good dose of ‘hardcore’, a rock-themed wedding may be just the way to celebrate your union with your friends and family. This is a classic theme, despite being rather specific in nature. The generations that enjoyed their youth during the 1970’s down to the modern day youngsters will be able to enjoy this theme.

Theme Colours and Design Elements
For a rock theme, black is an absolute must. However, this can be paired with a deep red or a vibrant purple for a real rockstar approach. Add textures to give the black items depth and movement. Velvet, satin and crushed ‘peach skin’ all look great. Leather and black denim are other rock favourites that simply must be included.

Also, include embellishments and designs incorporating skulls, roses, guns and hearts with wings. These can be integrated into your attire, accessories and décor.

Invitations
Send out tickets to a popular band’s concert as an invitation, or make up a rock group of your own and include all the details (venue, time, etc…) on the ticket.

Alternatively, have round stickers printed with your invitation on and stick these onto old records (LP’s) and deliver these to your friends and families.

Attire and Accessories
The bride may still wear a white dress, if desired. Add a distinct rock look by incorporating black and red or purple. A fascinator with a black netted veil over the face, for example, is both elegant and rock chic. Add a skull brooch or jewellery with roses, guns and skulls for a memorable look that is flexible. Due to the nature of this theme, shorter dresses are also appropriate, perhaps worn with All Star sneakers or calf-high leather boots.

The bridesmaids can wear dark knee-length dresses with dramatic make-up and comfortable sneakers or boots. Alternatively, put them and the groomsmen in ripped black denim shorts and rock T-shirts (think of motifs including Guns ‘n Roses, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and so on).

The groom will look his rockstar best in black jeans and a leather waistcoat. Add silver chains and a fake tattoo (or two) for a tough husband-to-be.

Dark purple or black lilies are becoming increasingly easy to get hold of, and these make for the perfect bridal bouquet. Black netting and black feathers also look great when nestled amongst the flowers.

Black angel wings or feather boas may be great additions for your wedding photographs and parts of your reception, depending on how playful you want to be with the theme.

Décor
To create an effective rock-themed venue, you will likely need to source some old memorabilia. Ask friends and family if they can assist, or visit second-hand shops and flea markets. Consider including the following types of items:

  • A jukebox
  • Plenty of LP’s, old CD’s and tapes
  • A red carpet entrance with ‘paparazzi’ (rope your little cousins in, if necessary)
  • Electric guitars and drum sets

Guest Gifts
Express your appreciation to your guests by having custom-made stick-on tattoos made for each one of them. They may carry a ‘thank you’ note, or an image that you know your guests would recognise and associate with you, as a couple.
